He'll be a first class arm flapper, just like dear old dad.

"Hawk Octavian"?

Gee. No pressure on the kid. I wanted to name a kid "Trajan Knievel" or maybe "Alexander Tamerlane," but The Wife was afraid be might have delusions of grandeur.

Huge congrats to both of you (and high five to the woman for doing the work while you do the futzing about and hand-wringing). Your other life has now officially ended. The real one stars right now.

Take good notes -- it will fly by faster than you will ever believe.

Be sure to get lots of buckets. A wise man told me they were important during early child rearing.

Thank you so much, everyone! Jenifer and I are thrilled and blessed with little Hawk and are settling into something resembling a routine. It's hard to believe that already a week has passed since we watched the Dem convention, went to bed, and then only a few hours later embarked on the labor journey. Time is a funny thing.

Brett: We considered a few alternatives but straightaway ruled out the trendy (Wolfgang Musashi) and the truly obnoxious (Agamemnon Pendragon). One of his grandfathers expects he'll make a great defensive back.
